Sept. 9th: Sleeping Bear Dunes North Loop...NEW RIDE!

We just got back from an awesome trip to the northern part of lower Michigan. Every year we take an anniversary trip in September, and this year Renee picked the area and Dale created this fantastic route. After 37 years of marriage we work well as a team. We had ridden in the UP before, and found it to be a bit too tree lined, flat and straight for our tastes, so we didn't really know what to expect of the area we visited this time, but let me tell you, it did not disappoint! We call this route Sleeping Bear Dunes North Loop.

Sleeping Bear Dunes North Loop

The Sleeping Bear Dunes North Loop is a paved ride located in the Northwest corner of Michigan’s lower peninsula.  Starting just North of Traverse City, this paved ride explores the tip of the Leelanau Peninsula.

This is a fun ride with a wide variety of scenic views and curvy, hilly roads.  Riders will see orchards, vineyards, sand dunes, hardwood forests and of course amazing views of Lake Michigan.

In addition to the natural beauty, there are numerous historic lakeside towns to visit and explore along the way.

The highlights of this ride are the Sleeping Bear Dunes Dune Climb and the Pierce Stocking Scenic Drive (Note: These areas require a pass to access.  You can purchase a pass at either location or at the Sleeping Bear Dunes Visitor Center in Empire, MI).

Approximate Mileage:  120 miles

Estimated Riding Time:  3.5 Hours 

Surface:  Paved

Attractions:  Leelanau State Park, Peterson Park, Sleeping Bear Point, Dune Climb, Pierce Stocking Scenic Drive, Glen Lake Viewpoint

In the coming weeks this route will only get more beautiful....trees will be turning, in fact they were already starting. You must check this one out, we had a blast!
