This week's featured ride is the River Bend Route. This is the perfect ride for those attending the 2025 Twistar JFF Ride.

The River Bend Route:

Named for the area where the Wisconsin River bends to the west, The River Bend Route has something for everyone. It includes twisty roads, open sweepers, elevation changes, a free ferry ride, scenic wonders, and a road called “Devil’s Delight”.  The River Bend Route traces the path of the Wisconsin River from Spring Green past Portage, Wisconsin. You will enjoy the open curves of Highway 60 and the free ferry crossing at Merrimac, on your way to Wisconsin Rustic Road #49 outside of Portage.

After you finish with the Rustic Road, your path turns back southwest toward some great hills and scenery.  It is on this part of the route that you will pass through Devil’s Lake State Park. Amazing rock formations and incredible hiking await you. Driving through the park is free, but you will need to pay for park access to hike. After Devil’s Lake you will also pass by Natural Bridge State park and Dr. Evermore’s Forevertron, which is a great place to stretch and view the fantastic metal creations.

As mentioned above, this route is an excellent ride for those attending the Twistar 2025 JFF (Just For Fun) Rally

New Driftless Rides:

This year, we provided 2 new rides for the 2025 Great River Road Rally. Since the rally is over, we are offering these 2 new rides to the general public.

Both of these rides start in Soldiers Grove, Wisconsin which was the rally location. Here are some details from the 2 rides:

GRRR Southern Loop:

This 185 mile paved loop explores driftless roads located South of Soldiers Grove and passes through Prairie du Chien (including Pete's Hamburgers), Woodman, Muscoda, Ferryville, and Lynxville. There are generous portions of the Great River Road as well as the hollows and valleys of the surrounding hills.

Please be aware that Highway 131 between Soldiers Grove and Gays Mills is closed through the summer of 2025.

GRRR Northern Loop:

This 160 mile paved loop explores driftless roads located North of Soldiers Grove and passes through Genoa, Stoddard, Chaseburg, Coon Valley, Ontario, Viola and Readstown. It also includes a generous portion of the Great River Road, a trip over Wildcat Mountain and passes the entrance of Norskedalen (Norwegian Heritage Center).
