The Loveland Pass Loop is located in Central Colorado, West of Denver and South of Interstate 70. This route starts in Georgetown, CO and heads South on Guanella Pass Road. Leaving Georgetown, riders quickly encounter a couple of switchbacks to get them started up the mountainside and into the long valley on the way to Guanella Pass. Along the way to this pass are several more switchbacks and scenic views of lakes and reservoirs. The road eventually emerges from the treeline at Guanella Pass Summit where there are pull offs and parking lots so riders can stop and take in the views.
From the summit, the ride is a gradual descent back down the valley to Highway 285 near Grant, CO. Be careful on the way down, there are a few switchbacks, hiking trails and campgrounds along this stretch, so you may encounter pedestrians or campers
Highway 285 follows the gentle curves of the valley further Southwest and eventually changes to flatter and straighter roads until the town of Fairplay. Fairplay is a bigger town and home of the South Park City Museum, a preserved frontier town.
Leaving Fairplay, the road starts to climb along the side of the mountains and the higher the climb, the curvier it gets. Eventually the ride crosses Hoosier Pass. From Hoosier Pass, the road makes a curvy descent through the valley and into the city of Breckenridge.
After Breckenridge, it is a short ride to Swan Mountain Road which provides several scenic views of Lake Dillon. Eventually, this route joins up with US-6 for the climb up to Loveland Pass. From Loveland Pass, the road makes a series of turns and switchbacks to the valley and eventually joins Interstate 70 for a quick ride back to the starting point in Georgetown.
