We found out that the Mississippi Bridge in Lansing will be closing later this fall and the new bridge will not open until 2027. Here are 3 rides in the area to try before the bridge closes.
Iowa Waterfall Route:

Who knew that Iowa boasts so many wonderful waterfalls? We did, and this route takes you directly to two waterfalls and puts you in close proximity to three others. The two waterfalls with the easiest access are Dunning Spring Falls and Siewer Spring Falls, both in Decorah, IA. Other waterfalls along this route are Malanaphy Falls, outside of Decorah, Bridal Veil Falls in Pike’s Peak State Park, and Beulah Falls near Spook Cave.
Please be aware that Bridal Veil Falls will require a short hike on a well marked path, but Malanaphy Falls will require a 1 mile hike through fairly rough terrain. The view is worth the hike. The terrain in this part of Iowa is widely varied. Experience the bluffs along the Mississippi and the rolling hills as you move west away from the river. This route picks its way through the various hill formations as it connects to the different waterfalls. It also follows the Great River Road from Marquette, Iowa to Lansing, Iowa. In addition to the beautiful waterfalls and the amazing roads, there are plenty of parks, museums and historical sites on the Iowa Waterfall Route.

Black Hawk Trail Route:

The Black Hawk War was a tragic period in early Wisconsin History. The Black Hawk Trail Route includes a series of historical markers commemorating the events that occurred during the Black Hawk War in this area. In addition to following the trail of Chief Black Hawk, this route provides the rider with an opportunity to enjoy portions of the beautiful Mississippi Great River Road as well as part of the scenic Kickapoo River Valley.

Lower Kickapoo Route:

We named this route for the Kickapoo River because much of the route is located in and around the lower Kickapoo River valley. However, this route will also have you riding along both the Mississippi and the Wisconsin Rivers. The proximity of this route to the 3 rivers mentioned above results in a great number of fun roads to choose from. Most of this route consists of small roads in the valleys that feed the 3 rivers, but there are also several large stretches of the Great River Road between Prairie du Chien and Ferryville, Wisconsin.
